Dublin Painting and Sketching Club Pre-Exhibition Launch at the City Assembly House, Dublin

Friday 14 March to 17th March 2014
City Assembly House, South William St, Dublin 2
Open 10am - 5pm daily

Homage to Sargent by Tom Roche

The Dublin Painting and Sketching Club marks its long history with a unique exhibition in the City Assembly House, celebrating representational art in Dublin, over a period of almost 250 years.  The City Assembly House was founded by the Society of Artists in Ireland in the 1760s.  Paintings will be exhibited in homage to the work of some of these Society artists, early Club members such as Walter Osborne, Sarah Purser as well as James McNeill Whistler and John Singer Sargent, both guest exhibitors, in the Club’s 1884 Exhibition.  A selection of current work, by Club members, will also be on display.

Plein Air Day at Sorrento-Ireland
August 10th
The weather was very difficult.  The main problem was wind, with light intermittent showers.  Seven members turned up and managed some work. Six stayed on Dalkey Common which is below Sorrento Park and was  somewhat sheltered. Tom Scott braved the elements in the park and was buffeted for the two hours he spent painting. It has been reported that one artist stayed home to paint the kitchen instead. Well done to all who produced some work in these conditions.  We look forward to seeing the fruits of your labours.  Perhaps at the next exhibition?
Michael McWilliams at the scene.

Aidan Hickey paints the view of Dalkey Island through the trees.

Barbara Graham finds a sheltered spot to work using the available props.

Catherine King dressed for sun and rain composes her view.

George Corcoran busy at work.

And last but not least, The Turner Award goes to Tom Scott for "Wet in Wet".
Congratulations Tom.  Let's hope this doesn't set a President, ...I mean precedent!
